Salsaal Castle

Although Talesh is the city of forests and waterfalls, it doesn't mean that you shouldn't expect historical monuments in this city. Salsaal Castle of Lisar is one of the unique places of this region and Gilan province.

This castle, the reason for whose name is not known correctly (of course, some people say that " Salsaal " means "boiling and lively waters"), is located on a rock 102 meters above the sea level for military purposes.

History and Nature of the Salsaal Castle

Historical and geographical books present different narratives about the time of its construction; however, researchers have concluded from the architectural context and the materials used in this castle that the castle belongs to the Sassanid period and was rebuilt by subsequent dynasties as well due to its strategic and military location. Two important restorations have been done on Salsaal Castle, the first in the Seljuk and the second in the Safavid era. This fort was built to monitor the surrounding areas and includes a water tank, command center, guards' quarters, water supply network, entrance doors and watchtowers. Apart from forest trees, the surroundings of the castle are full of bubbling springs; from the top of the castle, you can have domination over the surrounding areas in 4 directions. Talesh paddy fields, endless forest, Lisar city and surrounding villages are well visible from the top of Selsaal Castle.

History, nature, politics and an enjoyable and relaxing trip once again meet each other in Salsaal Castle of Lisar. Do not hesitate!!!
