Taq Bostan

Taq Bostan is a historical complex in Kermanshah province and belongs to the Sassanid period. This building has beautiful sculptures located in the heart of the mountains and encloses one of the most important and valuable written documents of antiquity.

This attraction has been registered in the list of national monuments of Iran on January 6, 1961, and in recent years, the cultural heritage of Kermanshah province seeks to register this attraction in UNESCO.

Taq Bostan historical complex

The name of Taq Bostan in Kermanshah Kurdish language is Taq-e-Wasan or Taq-e-Bosan which means an arch carved in stone. This complex was built in the third century AD near a mountain with the same name in the city of Kermanshah. This complex has special attractions such as carvings and reliefs of the Sassanid period, which are famous in the world.
These carvings and petroglyphs in fact represent the greatness and glory of Iranian art, because not only do they show the coronation and worship of Ahura Mazda and respect for the position of clerics, but also the narrator of architecture, sculpture, plastering, and landscaping, Murals, etc.
In a way, it can be said that all the visual elements and mysteries in the language of stone are gathered in this historical monument. Sassanid kings in the first years of their rule chose the areas around Persepolis to carve their statues. Since Ardashir II kingdom and the kings after him, they chose the attraction of Bostan Arch, which was located in the middle of the Silk Road and had a green, beautiful and watery nature.
Near the arches of this collection, we see the mirage of the Bostan arch and the lithographs, each of which has an interesting story of history to tell in the heart.
Taq Bostan is made of inscriptions and carvings about coronation of Ardeshir II in two arches, the smaller arch depicts Shahpour II and III and the larger arch depicts Khosrow Parviz with a special artistic feature. On the right side of the smaller arch and outside the arch, the carved petroglyphs shows the coronation of Ardeshir II and also the existence of a spring which is called Sarav in the local language of Kermanshah. Taq Bostan mountain made this complex a unique and attractive resort for tourism and entertainment.
