Arak Miqan wetland, known as desert wetland, is one of the important centers of nature tourism and bird watching in 15 km northeast of Arak and southwest of Davood Abad.

 It is one of the most beautiful natural features of Markazi province. Its area varies from about 100 to 110 square kilometers and is located about 1655 meters above sea level. Meighan Wetland is one of the top 10 important wetlands in the country and has a direct physical impact on the climate of Arak and is the largest source of sodium sulfate.
The lake has temperat  e winters in terms of climate; This feature has caused the habitat of birds, especially migratory birds from the northern regions of Iran and cold regions in autumn and early winter. In the years when there is adequate rainfall, the wetland has considerable water and in the years of low water, the surface of the wetland is generally dry, desert and saline. Wetland water supply sources are rainfall, water of three rivers Qara Kahriz, Farahan and Shahrab and Arak wastewater treatment effluent.

Climate of Arak Miqan Wetland

Arak Meighan Wetland has unique ecological features, including the fact that it hosts a large number of migratory birds each year, and some of the rare and protected species are seen among these birds. Since this wetland in Markazi province has a high population of Dorna compared to other habitats in the country, it is more important for environmentalists. In general, more than 60% of the birds of the province and 16% of the birds of the country live in this wetland of the country and some species of migratory and native birds of this region are rare and valuable and their presence in the migratory season makes tourist groups to travel to the area and visit these birds.
Dorna, Chatgar, oyster eater, Butimar, stork, Ekras, Nakfeh Nok, Kashim, Duck, Woodpecker, Dagger tip, Gypsy rooster, Cormorant are some of the bird species recorded in this lagoon. In addition, herons, egrets, cattle egrets, flamingos, geese, ruddy shelduck, common shelduck, sand pipper, large white headed gulls, snipe, and eurasian teal have also been recorded. Meanwhile, the gypsy rooster, ducks, ducks, and flamingos amaze people by showing themselves as much as possible in the pristine nature of Miqan wetland and make them want to see more of the wetland. In addition to birds, mammalian species, Artemia and a variety of saline algae are found in this wetland. The vegetation of the region is more than saline plants or halophytes, which in this regard, the wetland is one of the most important reserves of saline plants in the country. Meighan wetland in Arak has been turned into a no-hunting area by the General Department of Environmental Protection of Markazi Province.
