Gelfeshan

Gelfeshan, a mud volcano, is a geomorphological and geological phenomenon made of one or some volcanic craters, which constantly erupt cold mud to the surface of the earth and ultimately take the shape of small or big hills after accumulating on top of each other.

Gelfeshan is one of the spectacular natural phenomena that attracts every one's attention. Being known as gelfeshan mud volcano or fountain, this fantastic natural phenomenon exists in Chabahar, located in Sistan Baluchestan province. Gelfeshan mud volcanoes in Chabahar are geologically rare and unique natural phenomena. As the most famous and the biggest Gelfeshan mud volcanoes, these volcanoes are some small conical hills found in the north of Kahir-Tang road (in the south of Kahir-zarabad road) in Sistan Baluchestan province. Chabahar Gelfeshan is situated 95km west of Konarak in the vast plain of Kahir before Tang village. This Gelfeshan includes three small hills, one of which is still active and the other two are no longer active. The diameter of these hills are a few meters and grey mud leaps of the active volcano crater and flows down the slope. This happens intermittently every 10 to 15 minutes. Every time it erupts, the hill's soil trembles and sometimes you hear a gunshot-like sound at the time of eruption. Some call these mud volcanoes Gelfeshan fountains as mud leaps out of these hills like fountains. These hills are about 100 meters high. It is noteworthy that the best time to visit this phenomenal natural attraction is in spring and autumn.
