Pouryā-ye Vali tomb

Among the people of Iran, some human characteristics are of great importance. Fairness, philanthropy, helping the poor and chivalry are among these qualities.

For this reason, Iranian athletes and sports heroes throughout history have always tried to show these characteristics. One of the most famous people who was a gem of chivalry and freedom in the history of Iran is Pouryā-ye Vali. A person who traveled to many places and became beloved by Iranians throughout history. But it is interesting that the tomb of this man from Khwarazm is located in Khoy city in West Azarbaijan province.

Let's go and uncover the secret of this long distance.

Who is Pouryā-ye Vali and why is he buried in Khoy?

Pahlavān Mahmoud, nicknamed Pouryā-ye Vali, was one of the people of Khwarazm in the east of the Caspian sea, who was very skilled in Pahlevani and zourkhaneh rituals since he was a teenager. Of course, some believe that he was born in the city of Khoy, but this possibility is weak. He traveled to different lands of the Islamic world and wrestled with different rivals. During these trips, he helped the common people of the cities in whatever way he could, which made him very popular among Muslims. He finally died in 722  AH. There are two tombs of him, one in Khiva and the other in Khoy. There are different historical sources and reports about his presence in the western and southern cities of Iran. Also, 5  authentic documents indicate that the tombstone in Khoy is most likely his main burial. These documents show that he either died in one of his trips, or that he lived in Khoy.

About the architecture of the tomb:

His tomb is very simple; A tombstone under a structure with 4  columns with a hole on top of it. A big ring has been built next to the tomb as a symbol Pouryā-ye Vali's ring.Pouryā-ye Vali is a symbol of the correct and worthy behavior of heroes with ordinary people and his tomb is also a symbol of this great Iranian hero with his simplicity!!!
