Trans-Iranian Railway

One of the most controversial issues in the history of Iran in the last 100 years, the longest railway recorded in the UNESCO world heritage with a length of 1400 km and one of the most beautiful railway routes in the world, is the national railway of Iran, which connects the north and south of Iran.

This railway is stretched between the Caspian Sea and the Persian Gulf. It also passes through very beautiful paths. Forests, mountains, valleys, waterfalls, bridges, etc. are among the spectacular phenomena that you will see on your way.

Now let's have a multi-line trip with Trans-Iranian Railway.

Construction history:

The first steps of railway construction go back to the era of Naser al-Din Shah Qajar. A short rail track that was more like an intercity tram.Due to the turmoil in Iran, this project was not continued. Until Reza Shah Pahlavi signed a contract with European companies to build Iran's nationwide railway. There were many discussions about this railway in Iran's government, parliament and press. Reza Shah himself stated that his intention was Iran's economic growth. In this regard, the political and economic elites considered the route from west to east of Iran suitable for the railway. But England pressured Reza Shah to build a railway from south to north.England had two reasons: 1- England's enemies were reaching India through the west-east route. 2- England can send troops to the north of Iran through the Persian Gulf to confront Russia.

Finally, in 1927, the construction of the railway began, and after 11 years, its first section was completed and put into operation. Over time, other parts of it were completed and railways were built in the central, eastern and western provinces of Iran. On the 25th of August 2021, Iran's national railway was registered as the first industrial heritage and the 25th tangible national work of our country in the UNESCO World Heritage List. On this date, the 44th UNESCO meeting was held in China, and the case of registering the industrial heritage of Iran's nationwide railway was examined in this forum.

What are the attractions of Trans-Iranian Railway?

If we ignore all the unique natural beauties of the route, Veresk Bridge is the most important attraction of this route as one of the engineering masterpieces of the 20th century. This 66-meter bridge, located at a height of 110 meters above the ground, connects two mountains. Interestingly, no metal structure was used in the construction of this bridge and it was made of cement mortar and bricks. After 85 years of construction, trains pass over it several times a day. This bridge played an important role in the victory of the Allies in the Second World War and it has been nicknamed the “Victory Bridge”.Iran's railway passes through most of the country's provinces with numerous stations. If you stay on the train from the beginning to the end, you will see the 4 seasons from your room window. Green plains, high and stable mountains, scary and deep valleys, flowing rivers, etc.

A unique journey in the heart of a historical path. Iran National Railway brings you modern pleasure!!!
