Studies conducted in this place have shown that the works belong to the Achaemenid period. The ancient name of this city is not known with complete certainty, but the researches of Iranologists have shown that Sistan Dahane Gholaman was the political, administrative and social center, or in other words, the capital of Anguiana or Achaemenid for at least a short period between 150 to 200 years in the 6th and 5th centuries BC. Therefore, some historians believe that this city can be considered one with the Achaemenid Zarneka and Zarinmur such as Katzias and Isidore Kharaksi. Dahane Gholaman is naturally the new name of this city, which is derived from the natural strait with the same name. In fact, if we exclude the palace or cities of Persepolis, Susa and Pasargadae, the only urban center discovered from the Achaemenid period is Dahane Gholaman , and as far as published reports show, there is no city from the Achaemenid period that is large in size. Division and use of neighborhoods and houses and buildings should be comparable to this city.

Architecture of Sistan Dahane Gholaman

Various studies have been done on the architecture of Sistan Dahane Gholaman. A total of 27 buildings can be identified in this city, of which 7 units are of special importance in terms of archaeological studies. The architecture of these buildings are remarkable in terms of their size, map, composition, arrangement of rooms and other components. In terms of use, city buildings include office, social, religious and residential buildings. The corners of the buildings are usually located to the north, due to the 120-day winds of Sistan, which always blow from northwest to southeast, and therefore are located at the entrance of all buildings or on the south side, or windbreaks have been installed in front of them. One of the interesting features in this city is the lack of towers and fortifications on the defensive walls and the castle. The city has been destroyed as quickly as it was created, and the absence of any significant objects, the cleanliness and emptiness of the excavated areas from the remains of the settlement indicates that the evacuation of the city is in order and no external factor such as war and fire can be considered involved in its evacuation and abandonment. The collection of Sistan Dahane Gholaman has been registered in the list of national monuments of Iran on September 15, 1941.
