Pahlavanpour Garden

Pahlavanpour garden

Pahlavanpour Garden is located in Yazd, Mehriz. Pahlavanpour Garden was constructed during Zandieh dynasty and then was rebuilt during Qajar dynasty. Pahlavanpour Garden was not only inscribed as the national monument of Iran in 2002, but also was designated as the UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2011.

Pahlavanpour Garden is one of the gardens belonging to late Qajar era; this garden belonged to a person named "Hassan Molla reza" and then his son-in-law "Ali Pahlavan" inherited this garden. The complex, which includes a pavilion, a central courtyard and a garden, is now used as a hotel. This complex is very important in terms of Persian Garden architecture and shows the change in the construction of the Iranian Gardens.

The tower, the hayloft and stables can be seen at the entrance of Pahlavanpour Garden, but what attracts the visitors’ attention is the flowing stream that irrigates the lush plane trees in the garden with its melodious sound. The creek that passes through two rows of old plane trees offers a fascinating view. Of course, there are also fruit trees such as persimmons, pomegranates and almonds in this garden. This water originates from the aqueduct known as "Hassan Abad" that does not pass directly through any of the gardens in the region, except Pahlavanpour Garden. The water of Hasan Abad aqueduct irrigates the plane trees that have grown in the garden. In addition to the mentioned aqueduct, this garden is irrigated through two other water canals called "Shah Hosseini" aqueduct and "Mazvirabad" aqueduct. At the end of the garden, there is a pavilion or kushk, which was built with an impressive architecture during Qajar period. The pavilion has two and a half floors, a hall, and "Howz khane" (a house with a small pool). Apart from the architectural style, the flow of Hasan Abad aqueduct through the pavilion has enhanced its charm. There is another building in this garden called "Zemestan Neshin" or the room for winter because it faces the sun and absorb the sunshine during winter; this one-story structure was built during the reign of the first Pahlavi. The building in the northern part of the garden was the accommodation space for the servants.
