Awhadi Maraghai Tomb

The tomb of Awhadi Maraghai is an important historical monument in Maragha, which is located among other attractions in East Azerbaijan province. Being located in the middle of a green and pleasant garden has turned this tomb to one of the most spectacular tourist attractions in Maragha.

The tomb of Rukn al-Din Maraghai is the burial site of Rukn al-Din Abol Hassan Maraghai known as Awhadi Maraghai, a notable Persian mystic and poet born in Maragha during Ilkanid era. His father hailed from Isfahan and he himself resided in Isfahan for a while, so he is referred to as Awhadi Isfahani as well. Masnavi Jam-I Jam (the cup of Jamshid) is one of his remarkable works.

The structure of his tomb is a modern and concrete structure built between 1353 and 1357 A.H and placed on his tomb by the society for the national heritage of Iran. The tomb of Rukn al-Din is a square tomb made of bluestone placed on a platform in a paved garden; the tomb surface is about three stairs above the garden and his name and date of death ( 738 A.H) are engraved on the northern and southern walls. Awhadi museum is located next to his tome. As Maragha was the capital and seat of government during Ilkanid era, this museum is considered as the "specialized Ilkhanid Museum". To visit this tourist attraction, you can join Persian Trips tourism group.
