Dehdashti Edifice

Bushehr Dehdashti Edifice is one of the most beautiful original houses in the historical city of Bushehr, the capital of Bushehr province. The historical context of Bushehr includes the neighborhoods of Behbahani, Dehdashti, Shanbadi and Kooti or Sheikh Saadoun.

Dehdashti Edifice, located in Kooti neighborhood of Bushehr, is easily recognizable due to its height. This mansion is one of the most important attractions in Bushehr province, which has received a lot of attention in terms of architecture, design and decorations.

Architecture of Dehdashri Edifice

Bushehr Dehdashti mansion has always been of special architectural importance because this building was built in four floors while most of the old mansions in the area were two-story or at last three-story. This mansion, like most houses in Bushehr, is built in white to absorb less sunlight; next to the entrance of the building, there is a platform for guests to relax, sit and rest.

When entering Dehdashti mansion in Bushehr through the main door, it does not have a direct view to the inside, and the public and private parts of the mansion are separated; this feature is one of the architectural characteristics of the buildings in this area. The rooms of Dehdashti mansion are also built, similar to other southern houses, around the central courtyard. In the middle of the courtyard, there is a square with high walls, which has added to the beauty of the building. Beautiful decorations and plastering inside the rooms, doors and windows have doubled the beauty of the building; the most beautiful part of the building is Shah Neshin, which dazzles the eyes of the visitors with mirrors installed on its roof. The ceiling of the reception hall is also painted in oil and European style. One of the features of the rooms here is the way the windows are placed in order to escape the sultry air of Bushehr and ventilate the air; moreover, most of the materials used in the building are plaster, lime, coral stones, teak wood and sandal wood.

Bushehr Dehdashti Mansion was the house of a merchant named Haj Gholam Hossein Dehdashti who lived during the Qajar period. Haj Gholam Hossein was an oil trader, so his house is also known as the oil mansion. Dehdashti mansion had both commercial and residential function; commercial documents sealed with foreign merchants’ seals as well as many stamps belonging to countries like India, Germany, Britain, etc. are now kept in Bushehr cultural heritage. These documents clearly clarify the position of the house and its owner.

Dehdashti mansion has been renovated several times and attracts a lot of tourists as a museum of medical history of the Persian Gulf. In this museum, you can see documents related to the treatment to various diseases prevalent in previous periods, old medical equipment, books and various pictures with medical topics, medicine containers, etc. By visiting this house, in addition to witnessing the progress of medicine in Bushehr province in the past, you can enjoy watching the different parts of architecture and decorations used in this cozy and quiet mansion.
