Moghuyeh Castle (Sheikh Sultan Castle)

After the Arab invasion of Iran, a large part of the southern residents of Iran near the shores of the Persian Gulf were formed by Arabs. For this reason, after the return of the Iranian dynasties, the kings appointed Arab rulers to protect the water borders of the Persian Gulf.

One of these governors was Sheikh Sultan Al-Marzooqi, the ruler of Moghuyeh in Bandar Lengeh, located in Hormozgan province, whose castle is still standing.

Let's go and visit the shores of the Persian Gulf.

History of Moghuyeh Castle:

This castle, which is known as both the ruler and the city, was a building belonging to the Qajar period and the rule of Sultan Marzooqi over this area. He, who was appointed by the Qajar court, built a castle in 1903  for defense purposes, which has been standing until now and is considered one of the main tourist destinations of Hormozgan province. This building was registered in the Iran National Heritage List in 1998, but unfortunately, due to the rain, it needs major renovation.

The Castle architecture:

This square-shaped castle has an area of about 2000  square meters and is built on three floors. The materials used in its construction include: clay, mud and wood, the reason for its erosion is the use of raw clay in the rainy area, which destroys the clay. Clay was used by Iranians in desert areas where it rarely rains.Due to the residence of the ruling family, the castle includes an inner courtyard and an outer courtyard. The number of rooms is very large and the decorations are taken from Iranian-Islamic architecture. Two wind turbines, a guard tower, a large bathroom and 3  wells are among the other facilities in the castle.

The way to reach the port and castle of Moghuyeh:

Moghuyeh port is located 45  kilometers from Bandar Lengeh road to Asaluyeh. You will easily find the Castle in Moghuyeh.Bandar Lengeh is known as the bride of the Persian Gulf, and Moghuyeh Castle was built to protect this gem. So don't miss visiting the bride's bodyguard!!!
