Sialk Archeological Hills

Sialk Archeological Site is located three kilometers south-west of Kashan on Kashan-Fin Road.

This area consists of two north and south hills or cemeteries A and B, which are 600 meters apart. Cemetery A, which is 3,500 years old, is located on Amir Al-Momenin Boulevard today, while Cemetery B, which is 3,000 years old, is located under the gardens and agricultural fields on the western side of the hill. Sialk is one of the ancient historical sites after Jiroft civilization in Kerman on the Iranian plateau. According to written documents, this historical attraction belongs to pre-Achaemenid period; archeologists believe that the civilization of people living in Sialk Hills were defeated by Aryan civilization; their objects such as long tubular vessels with images of horses and suns, iron weapons, swords and long spears have been found in various layers of excavation. Valuable artifacts such as Sialk ziggurat, patterned pottery, writings related to pre-Achaemenid period, and the oldest hand-made clay are found on Sialk Hill.

Sialk Hills Discovery

About 80 years ago, there was a flood in Kashan, which damaged most of the agricultural lands. The unforeseen consequence of this devastation was the emergence of a thousand-year-old civilization that surprised everyone. After some greedy dealers learned that there was a treasure trove of history buried in this land, many made clumsy excavations in this area in order to discover the historical objects for sale. Consequently, these precious artifacts were sold to antique dealers, many of which were exported to other countries. Being home to many antiques, Sialk became a source of looters. A lost civilization that had survived natural disasters for thousands of years was turned into a plowed field by antique dealers. Following that a large number of historical artifacts from Sialk Civilization were found in Western museums. An archaeologist named Roman Gershman, who worked for Louvre Museum in Paris, traveled to Iran to save Sialk, this natural museum of human civilization history.
