History of Fatehabad Garden in Kerman

Regarding the history of Fatahabad Garden in Kerman, it should be noted that the antiquity dates back to Qajar period. This garden was built by order of Fazl Ali Khan Biglarbegi, the ruler of Kerman during the reign of Mohammad Shah Qajar, as a place for rest. The construction of the building, which began in 1838, lasted about five years and finally ended in 1844. Pistachio trees were planted around the garden pavilion by order of Fazl Ali Khan, and the harvested crops were processed in different parts of the garden. After Fazl Ali Khan, Nusrat al-Malik I and the second rulers of Kerman made the garden of Fatehabad the place of their parties and entertainment. During Pahlavi era, the garden of Fatehabad passed to Rostam Khan Amiri, a descendant of Fazl Ali Khan. He also dedicated this garden to charity in January 1973. With the dedication of this building, the garden was not taken care of and the water of the aqueduct and its trees dried up and the garden lost its prosperity and glory. However, this historical and valuable monument of Kerman province was included in the list of national monuments of Iran on February 3, 2002 with the registration number 7284.

In 2014, its reconstruction operation began. This building was visited by the public after renovation in the summer of 2015. Today, in addition to becoming a beautiful and remarkable tourist attraction, Kerman Fatahabad Garden is also a place for holding handicrafts exhibitions, rituals and various festivals. Also, due to having cultivated lands for medicinal plants, shops have been established to sell medicinal plants inside the garden.

Architecture of Fatehabad Garden, Kerman

The architecture of Fatahabad Garden in Kerman has attracted a lot of tourists due to its white pavilion and the beauty inside it. This pavilion is located on two floors with arches on both sides at the end of the northern part of the garden. Its materials are raw clay, mud mortar and gypsum, plastering layer. Above the entrance door of the Fatah Abad pavilion, holes were made in which arched magnifying glasses were placed.

This magnifying glass causes the light beam of wind lights to be reflected in the front part of the structure at night. This mansion has a room called the painting room, which was the residence of the ruler of Kerman in ancient times, and is known by this name because all around it, paintings and murals are seen as exquisite. Since he used gold water when he painted and decorated these paintings, vandals destroyed these paintings and stole their gold. Of course, some of these murals still remain. On the south side of the Fatehabad pavilion, there is a rectangular mezzanine with rooms on both sides, some of which are entered from inside the pavilion and some of which are entered from the mezzanine. Today, this room is rented for rituals and celebrations.
