Jameh mosque of Daragh
Our today's article is about a small but very beautiful and special mosque in the small town of Daragh (7km from the city of Garmeh) located in North Khorasan province.
This mosque, which is considered to be a meeting place for the people, is more than350 years old and was registered in Iran National Heritage List in 2006.
But let's see what is interesting about this mosque?
The history of the construction of Jame Daragh Mosque?
During the Safavid era, with the officialization of the Shiite religion in Iran and the policies of the government, mosques were built throughout Iran with specific architectural patterns that also take into account local characteristics. One of these mosques which the year of its construction cannot be precisely determined, is our Intended mosque.Due to the continued legitimacy of the Shiite religion in Iran, this mosque has always maintained its place as a gathering place for the people of Daragh and today it is considered the only mosque where all religious ceremonies are held. In addition, due to maintaining its original use, the last restoration was done on this structure in 2013.
What are the architectural features of this mosque?
Due to the proximity of the mosque in a semi-arid region, special materials must be used, and Dargh Mosque is no exception to this rule and is made of clay and mud. Of course, some resistant materials have also been used in recent restorations.owing to the intense sunlight in these areas, creating and maintaining cool air and preventing direct light from entering the building is an important issue. For this purpose, they built the roofs with arched domes and inner covering of straw. This method keeps the proper air in the building while keeping the simplicity and reducing the cost. The outer courtyard of the mosque is paved with stone, which can be seen in most Safavid buildings. There is also a pond in the middle of the yard for ablution. Another very important point in the construction of Masjid Jameh of Daragh is the absence of any decorations on the facade of the altar and the exterior of the structure.
A small but spectacular and active mosque where the authentic culture of eastern Iran flows!!!
