Who is Qutb ad-Din Haydar?

Sufism and mysticism have always been a part of the religious and intellectual fabric of the people of the Middle East. No matter what religion the society believes in, Sufism was able to penetrate deep into it. Islam is no exception to this rule, and from the very first years, famous people became known as Sufis of Islam. This process continued until the center of Sufism shifted from the Middle East to Khorasan and beyond. In the 6th century A.H., a person named Qutb ad-Din Haydar, who was from the people of Khorasan, became one of the most influential and famous Sufis of that region and gained many fans. After his death, his burial place was called Torbat-e Heydariyeh (Hayder's tomb), which is one of the big cities of Razavi Khorasan province today.

History of the construction of the building:

According to historians, at first no building was built on his grave until a mausoleum was built during the Timurid period and with the strong expansion of Sufism. With the rise of the Safavids, who were both Shiites and Sufis, the attention of the local rulers to the restoration of the great Sufism and Shiite monuments increased, and this structure was also renovated. The tomb of Qutb ad-Din Haydar Tomb was finally registered in the Iran national heritages list in 1931 AD.

The exciting architecture of this tomb:

Qutb ad-Din Haydar tomb includes the tomb of him and a porch of the old mosque, and the mausoleum is located in the middle of the area under the dome and has a wooden shrine with an altar built along its entrance. On the west side of the tomb, the porch of the old mosque draws attention. There is an inscription on this porch that introduces the time of construction and the builder. Brick, stone and plaster are the materials used in the construction of the dome of the mosque. The inner cover of the dome is artistically decorated with Islamic expressions. The small courtyard of the complex has several two-story rooms, and a small pond can be seen in front of it.Of course, next to the complex, there is also a caravanserai, which was built in the Qajar period and is for the comfort of travelers and pilgrims. This building has the effects of Timurid and Safavid architects and artists (two eras of architectural flourishing). For this reason, all the subtleties, artistry, principles and characteristics of Iranian-Islamic architecture can be seen in the exterior and interior texture of the structure.

Qutb ad-Din Haydar Tomb is a meeting place for fans of Sufism and mysticism in the city of Torbat-e Heydariyeh and its beating heart!!!
