Baladeh Qanat
Historical Ferdows Baladeh Qanat (aqueduct) which is located in South Khorasan dates back to the Sassanid dynasty. This Qanat includes 16 aqueducts, and 2 springs. Baladeh historical aqueduct irrigates about 2,382 hectares of agricultural lands in Ferdows city.
Baladeh Ferdows historical aqueduct is registered in the list of national monuments with the number 30161. The historic Baladeh Ferdows aqueduct was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List on June 14, 2016.In Baladeh aqueduct, very good engineering system has been used and it still works over the years, and the people of the region are both users and protectors of this aqueduct. Baladeh aqueduct consists of 15 wells and 4 springs. It was probably dug in the heart of the eastern mountains of Ferdows region during the Sassanid era. This old structure is created with limited knowledge of that time and the water extracted from it has helped the development of Ferdows region, farms and gardens.This aqueduct is a complete historical system of water extraction. Not only does it irrigate a large part of the agricultural lands near the city of Ferdows, but also after irrigating 45 kilometers, it irrigates more than 2,382 hectares of other lands in Ferdows. Baladeh aqueduct has 15 wells and four springs from which water is extracted by mixed method.The exact date of its construction is not known. Historical documents state that the construction of Baladeh aqueduct dates back to before Islam and the Sassanid period, but the accomplished historiographies of potteries around the aqueduct indicate that this aqueduct was built 500 years after the Gonabad Qasbeh aqueduct. Baladeh aqueduct collects surface water from valleys and flow it in a complex network, irrigating the Ferdows region, gardens and agricultural lands along the way. This aqueduct is very important for the people living in Ferdows because of the importance of structure and its usage.
