Niavaran Palace Complex

After Tehran was chosen as the capital of Iran by the Qajar kings, many constructions took place there. A large and important part of these constructions belonged to the kings and their families.

In the north of Tehran, there are many areas with good weather, which are the destination of the palaces of the royal family. One of these areas is Niavaran Palace Complex, which has 12  hectares, and during the Qajar and Pahlavi dynasties, many palaces were built for the royal family as summer residences, the last of which became known as Niavaran Palace and today it is one of the the main Tehran tourism destinations. In this article, we will introduce Niavaran Palace to you.

Niavaran Palace Complex; from Fath Ali Shah to Mohammad Reza Shah:

The first building belonged to Fath Ali Shah Qajar and he built a hut for the summer. The kings after him also built a small building in it. But the first important building was built by Naser al-Din Shah and he named it Sahebqaraniyeh Palace (his own title). But the work of Qajar did not end here and the last building was built by Ahmad Shah (the last king of Qajar) named Ahmad Shahi Pavilion. Reza Shah Pahlavi did not build any mansion in Niavaran and used previous buildings, but his son Mohammad Reza Shah ordered the destruction of Fath Ali Shah palace and the construction of today's Niavaran mansion, the construction of which lasted from 1958  to 1967. At first, the palace was built to receive foreign guests, but over time it became a summer residence of the royal family. After the Islamic Revolution of Iran in 1979, this palace was renovated and turned into a palace-museum and its visit is open to the public.

General features and internal structure of Niavaran mansion:

When you see the facade of the palace, you will remember the old and ancient palaces of Iran, but with a completely modern face. A group of Iranian and European architects participated in its construction, the result of which is a combination of authentic Iranian art and modern European architecture. The area of the building is about 9050 square meters, which is built on two and a half floors, and we will introduce each floor separately. Unique plastering, mirror work and extraordinary harmony can be seen in all the interior spaces. The floors are connected through a luxurious and beautiful staircase.

The first floor: includes a 400-meter private cinema and the main auditorium, where all kinds of furniture, curtains, decorations, antiques, precious carpets, etc. are in perfect harmony with the color of the walls. After the palace was converted into a museum, all kinds of dining utensils and decorations belonging to European royal families, objects from ancient Iran, exquisite Iranian carpets and luxurious paintings have been displayed in the corners or corridors of this floor.Middle half-floor: This was actually considered a kind of work room and most of the princes were busy in it. Today, you can see Mohammad Reza Shah's clothes and some beautiful statues in it.Second floor: This floor used to be the private and resting rooms of the royal family, where personal belongings, clothes, wardrobes and tables are displayed with the utmost elegance in design for tourists. The clothes of this class have military insignia belonging to Mohammad Reza Shah.

Niavaran Palace complex is a royal and very luxurious complex belonging to the last 200  years of Iran!!!
